As a newborn photographer Sydney, I often get clients enquiring who are concerned about the size of their home for their newborn photoshoot. With many people living in small apartments in Sydney, this is a really common concern. However, after 10+ years of experience photographing new babies in their homes, I can assure you that nothing is too small, and that you home will be just right! Having a small space should not deter you from capturing beautiful memories of your newborn. In fact, there are many creative ways that we will be able to work with small spaces to create the most stunning and unique photographs that you will cherish for years to come.
First, it’s important to note that the focus of a lifestyle home newborn photoshoot Randwick is about capturing natural, candid moments of your family at home, rather than on elaborate props and backgrounds. This means that we can work with the space you already have in your home to create a beautiful and authentic setting for your photos.
When I arrive at your home for your photoshoot, I will walk around to get a good understanding of the space and light in each room. Often, I will be inspired by the way the light is falling in an unusual space you never thought we would use. The newborn photographs Randwick taken in these spaces always turn out the best!
Here are some newborn photoshoot ideas and tips for making the most of your small space during your newborn photoshoot Sydney:
- Use natural light: Natural light is the key to creating beautiful and soft images. When I arrive at your home, I will scout out the most beautiful soft light in your home and these are the rooms we will do most of our shooting in. It may just be a little nook or a corner in a room, but the natural light in the space will create breathtaking photos.
- Clear the clutter: Small homes don’t matter but clutter in the background is not great. Clear any unnecessary clutter from your home to create a cleaner look. I recommend giving your home a simple clean and pack away before I arrive.
- Work with what you have: Small spaces can often be cosy and intimate which is perfect for newborn photo session. I will use your furniture from your bed to your couch or armchair to create comfortable and intimate photos.
- Get creative with angles: By changing up the angles and perspectives in your photos, I will create a sense of depth and space, even in a small room! I may take some shots from above or below to create a unique and interesting perspective.
- Don’t forget the close ups: Close up macro photos are some of the best newborn photos as they capture all the tiny details you never want to forget. In these photos, there is barely any background visible as we are zoomed in on your babies tiny toes, hands or eyelashes. In these photos you truly wont know the size of the space you are in!
- Use props: Small spaces don’t mean you can't use props. I will bring with a beautiful carefully curated collection of blankets to your newborn photoshoot Vaucluse. These add layers and depth to the photos. If you have any meaningful items such as a special blanket or toy you want to include be sure to let me know. I will also use items in your space such as mirrors, framed, windows or plants to add depth and dimension to your photos.
- Parents as a prop: My style of photography is natural, my goal is to capture authentic photos that show the love, connection and bond that you share with your newborn baby. So naturally, you become the prop in many of the photos. Whether it is the baby curled up on your chest, your baby in your arms or propped up in your hands. You are the background and prop so your house and size of the space simply just wont matter. I will take you and your baby and stick you up against a wall with a nice window and voila!
- Consider outdoor spaces: If you home doesn’t have enough variety inside, I will likely wrap your baby up so they are nice and cosy and we will venture outside onto your balcony or courtyard for some photos. Some of my favourite newborn photos have even been captured out the front of people from doors sitting on a step!
- Embrace imperfections: Some of the best spaces for newborn photos may be up against a brick or textured wall on your balcony, or the little attic room with the weird window and cute little chair. If you trust me and my vision, we will be able to turn some of the most un-used spaces in your home into pure magic.
- Timing is key: It is important to schedule your photoshoot at a time when your home is likely to be clean and clutter free. This could be right after your cleaner has come or when you know you will have some help to tidy up the space.
- Capture the everyday moments: Newborn photography Randwick is not just about capturing posed shots of your baby. You can also capture everyday moments like feeding time or snuggling on the couch. These photos will be just as meaningful as the more posed shots and will help you to remember those precious first weeks of your baby’s life.
- Use a wide Aperture: I always shoot newborn photos Sydney using a wide aperture as it blurs the background and creates a dreamy look in the photos. This works wonders in small spaces as it is easy to blur out the background or crop what we don’t want to see out.
- Don’t stress: Remember that newborn photography Vaucluse is all about capturing natural and candid moments of your family. It is not about perfection or elaborate props that take away from the baby and the bond and connection you share. So don’t stress if your home isn’t perfectly clean or organised. I will work with you to create a comfortable and relaxed setting for your photoshoot.
I hope these tips help to ease any concerns you may have about the size of your home for a newborn photoshoot. All I need is a good window and I promise I will create magic with everything else no matter the size!
