Post Production: How I Turn Your Family Portraits Into Art

Newborn Photography Sydney

Un-finished family portraits:

Giving away my un-edited family portraits is like giving away an un-finished artwork and as a perfectionist, I just can’t do it. I often get phone calls from potential clients asking if I can just send them the un-edited photos. The answer I always give is “no”.

Post production is the icing on the cake when it comes to professional family photography. It is a necessity in order to enhance the overall quality of a photo. For most photographers, there is a very fine balance between natural editing to enhance colours and light and over editing which makes the photographs look un-natural and fake.

The first thing I do when I start editing is I select the sharpest photographs for you to see. I don’t want to waste your time by having you sift through all the photographs you don’t want to see!

Transition from portrait to art

Every image I take is individually processed before you see it. I adjust the colour to make sure the skin tones are warm. I ensure the brightness and exposure are perfect soe the photo is lively. Adjusting the saturation and vibrancy makes it pop along with many other post production tricks. I also try and balance the dark and light areas and shadows within a photo to make sure it is engaging and flattering.

As you can see in the examples below, my editing is very soft, gentle and timeless. It supports my natural and candid style of family photography resulting in vibrant images that last a lifetime.
